Planning a party can be as simple or as detailed as you want to make it. I've planned many birthday parties in my day due to the fact that I have three children of my own. On the simple side I would like to share some ideas with a little western style that's sure to make your party memorable. As I grew up my family always made a big deal of this special day, that each of us can claim only once a year. Most people make a point of planning a great birthday meal that can't be beat. My mom was always a bit theatrical so we were encouraged to come up with a fun theme of some sort. I would like to expound on the western theme for some party fun. It is important to gear the party towards the children's abilities. If it takes too long to explain the rules, bounders, or game you may lose them. Let's look at three different age categories.

• Children ages four to six

• Children ages seven to ten

• Children ages eleven to fifteen

You'll find that children age's four to six have great imaginations and all you have to do is set the stage. Just bring out the cowboy hats and watch their faces light up. Half of the cowboy hats can have pink bandanas on them to distinguish the difference between cowgirls and cowboys or black bandanas for the good cowboys and bad cowboys. As you set the stage, be creative but not limited to just your idea, let them help create the stage as well. How about having the cowboys ask the cowgirls to a family picnic. At this age they rarely feel inhibited and always enjoy family role playing. Provide a basket with the birthday lunch, game to play or even a craft activity. How about pretending they live on a horse farm and some of the horses were stolen by the bad cowboy. Have the bad cowboys hide pictures of horses or stuff animals and have the good cowboys find them and return them to the farm. Their imaginations will run wild. Now sit back or play along and watch the fun begin.

For ages seven to ten a square dancing party would be the way to go. Shopping for hats could possibly be the easiest part of planning the party. You'll find the best prices online and many styles to choose from. Taking on the western style for this age group will help them forget about some of their insecurities and break the ice between the boys and girls. You can find lots of information at your local library on basic square dancing or line dancing techniques. They may even have square dancing music which will make it easier for you unless you have always wanted to be a square dance caller. Maybe the kids would love to do some basic calls to see how their friends respond. Encourage the kids to wear cowboy boots if they have them. Cowboy hats are something that everyone can wear and have fun being silly. Send these hats home as party favors and have your party be remembered as the fun event of the year. All that is needed are some cowboy hats, cowboy boots and some square dancing music.

For older kids ages eleven to fifteen you could plan a backyard BBQ with some great country music, and some fashionable straw cowboy hats. You could create lots of communication by adding a piece of paper with a country singers name on it attached to the back of the hat so the wearer can't see it. They have to ask questions about their name tag so they can guess who the country singer is. As they guess correctly they can keep their awesome cowboy hat. It could be helpful to choose your country music in relation to the country singers you have chosen as tags for the hats to assist those having trouble. At this age these cowboy hats will get lots of use over the years as they should fit well into adulthood. What a great party gift.

Planning kid's birthday parties with a western touch can be inexpensive and super fun for all involved. What fabulous ideas, simple to plan and not limited to just birthdays. Adding kid's cowboy hats to any party makes it fun and exciting. Shopping for cowboy hats? Don't pay too much. Dress up with a little western style and watch the fun begin.

My favorite hat is 25 years old. That doesn't mean I'm will to give up my age just yet. Seems like such a long time although I'm considered young to some people. We have been through a lot together my hat and I. It has been a true friend keeping my secretes for years now while I wear it comfortably upon my head. I often receive many comments on how great my hat style compliments me. That always makes me reminisce of just how long I have had my cowboy hat and how it is the best hat because of all the years we have spent together. It makes me think of all the conversations I have had while it rest upon my head. The people I've met and the places we have been together.
It may seem silly to explain it this way but I'm sure if you think of some of your favorite things you'll understand. Cowboy hats, purses, sunglasses, shoes and the like can become dear friends. Let's just enjoy the idea of the simple and practical use of something. I'm not saying relationships are to be over looked or sold short. I've also heard that if our pets could talk some of us might be embarrassed. Best of all we just might have some great stories to tell about our favorite things.
As I was mentioning my cowboy hat is 25 years old and I can't help but think of three great stories I have to share about how this hat will last a lifetime. I got it when I was 23 years old. You do the math. I came upon this hat at an outdoors show in Reno Nevada. I put it on and immediately felt the common bond that we belonged together. Of course it was much more than I was willing to pay or to be honest, than I had at the time. Thank goodness for fathers with cash that love their daughters.Besides being grateful for my leather and suede hat I would love for you to understand the connection that's been created. Kind of like peanut butter and jelly, Qwick Draw McGraw and Baba Looie, what about The Lone Ranger and Tanto. Oh goodness I may have just aged myself.
The best hats memories come to mind when I almost burnt it. We got lost in the wilderness Easter day while in Montana a few years later. Realizing the night was closing in with the chilly air I had to get a fire going to hopefully keep me safe and warm through the night. My hat almost became a sacrifice for survival as I lay close to the fire trying to stay warm. Something I'm not proud of but managed to escape with the best hat and a great lesson learned.
Hat styles differ for each person. My practical hat had now become more comfortable, gained more character and seemed to become a partner in most events. I attended my first Rodeo with my cowboy hat upon my head. Wow those cowboys are crazy kept going through my mind. It was hard to believe that their hats could stay on with such and incredible ride. I was amazed and wanted to get their autographs. With nothing to sign I hesitated to take the best hat off my head and have it signed by a young man named Chris Shivers who later became a great bull rider and a PBR champion. The best hat had just gained more charterer and memories that will last a life time.
I often took my hat with me when I vacationed. While in Vegas our group rushed in and out of a cab as we tried to keep on track with our itinerary. Sad to say my cowboy hat took off in that cab before I realized it. I tried to locate my leather and suede hat I thought would last a life time. I called the cab company every month or so in hopes that it might turn up. After about 6 months I gave up. The cowgirl in me seemed to disappear. I found it difficult to try different hat styles yet I knew I had to move on. As I searched for another cowboy hat I found many hat styles that bring out the cowboy in you. Low and behold I received a box in the mail about 9 months later. Imagine the happiness I experienced. The best hat had been returned to me. Accompanied with a note from the cab driver that it had been push down into the seat and couldn't be seen. If it were not for the flexible material it would have been crushed without repair. Apparently a curious little boy pulled it out. My hat and I have been through a lot together and the memories will last a lifetime.
